This piece was done as part of a fundraiser for the Australian Cattle Dog Rescue Association, where those who donated received a custom pet portrait in return. I didn’t end up getting explicit permission to post the references I was sent, so I’m going to err on the side of caution and not share them here (especially since this was a memorial piece).

Another piece for a friend, Princess (full name Princess Tiabeanie) was the first small dog I did a portrait of. In particular, I had a lot of fun with her little teeth and crazy forehead fluff.
✷
My friend only sent me one reference image, but by the stars it is perfect. Her expression and her crazy hair are incredible.

Boodles was another portrait for a friend, and my first cat portrait! She was an incredibly interesting challenge as I wanted to make sure I got some colors in her jet black fur.
✷
To the right is the reference image of Boodles that I used. My friend sent me a few, but the lighting was similar on all of them. I ended up having to do some serious contrast and saturation adjustments to this picture when I went to finally use it.

I wasn’t quite done with collage after Nala’s portrait, so I decided to do one of my partner’s childhood dog as a gift to his mother.
✷
I’ve spent some time living with Rory, and as such I had a plethora of reference images to choose from. I settled on this one because of how regal he looked.

Nala was my first collage pet portrait, and the one that made me realize I wanted to continue doing portraits! She was a memorial gift for a friend.
✷
My friend sent me a handful of images of Nala to reference, and I had a good deal of material to work with.

And here’s one of my primary references for the piece! I liked this one because you can really see all the different spiky bits.
